 3.  Reservations:

The various reservation provisions provided for the seats under the purview of competent authority are detailed here. The seats earmarked for N.C.C. candidates, J & K candidates and Govt. of India nominees do not have further internal reservation.

3.1  Provision of 15% seats for candidates passing SSC examination with Technical/Vocational subjects:

  • 15 % seats of the sanctioned intake, course wise, shall be reserved for the candidates passing Std. X examination with Technical/ vocational subjects as prescribed by the Directorate Of Vocational Education, Maharashtra State.

  • For deciding the merit of such candidates, the marks scored by the candidate in the SSC Examination, without considering the marks scored by the candidate in the Technical/ vocational subjects, shall be conside red.

  • The seats reserved for these candidates shall have further reservation among themselves for the Backward Class categories mentioned in these Rules.

3.2  Reservation for Backward Class Candidates:

The percentage of seats reserved for the backward class candidates from Maharashtra State are as per the details in table below. The percentages of reservation are the percentages of the sanctioned intake capacity for the course in all Govt. / Govt. Aided and Unaided Polytechnics except for the institutes having minority status. In case of minority institutes, the percentages of reservation are the percentage of the seats available for non-minority candidates. Backward class candidates shall claim the category to which they belong at the time of application. If a candidate fails to claim reservation for backward class on the application and subsequently claims reservation at the time of admission by producing necessary documents, such claim shall not be considered.

Note : The candidates claiming SBC category shall be eligible for seat in open category and also for seats remaining vacant after admission of the candidate from Backward class category. The reservation shall not exceed 2% of the sanctioned intake capacity.

3.2.1  Documents for supporting the reservation claim for Backward Classes:

The documents required for supporting the backward class reservation claim made by the candidates are as per the details in the following table.

3.3  Reservation for sons / daughters of defence Service Personnel: Five per cent (5%) seats of the total sanctioned intake for Polytechnic, subject to a maximum of five (5) seats in each Government, Government Aided and Unaided Polytechnics shall be reserved for children of defence service personnel and ex-defence service personnel including those permanently disabled or killed in action. These seats are within the sanctioned intake capacity for the course.

3.3.1 The seats reserved under this category are excluding the number of seats secured by the candidates belonging to defence category standing in general merit.

3.3.2 The seats reserved for sons / daughters of defence service personnel is further divided between Service Personnel and Ex- service Personnel in the ratio of 3:2. The seats for Service Personnel is further divided between Service Personnel domiciled in the State of Maharashtra and Service Personnel not domiciled in the State of Maharashtra in the ratio 1:1 ;

  • Thirty (30) per cent seats for children of active service personnel who are domiciled in Maharashtra State ( D1).

  • Thirty (30) per cent seats for children of active service personnel (D2)

    - Who are transferred to Maharashtra State but are not domiciled in Maharashtra State,
    - Who are not domiciled in Maharashtra State but their families are stationed in Maharashtra State under the provision of retention of family accommodation at the last duty station on grounds of children's education.

  • Forty (40) per cent seats for children of Ex- service personnel who are domiciled in Maharashtra State ( D3).

Seats reserved for Defence category candidates are available only amongst 70% District Level seats. However, Defence category candidates giving options for 30% round will be considered as open category candidates or as any other backward class candidate, if applicable.

3.4  Physically Handicapped Candidates:

3.4.1  As per the provisions in Clause 39 of Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation Act 1995, three per cent (3%) seats of total sanctioned intake capacity of Government and Government Aided colleges shall be reserved for physically handicapped candidates. These seats are within the sanctioned intake capacity and taken from minority seats in case of Institutions having minority status. This reservation shall be applicable for following types of physically handicapped candidates:

  • Blind / visually impaired candidates (P1)

  • Speech & hearing impaired (deaf & dumb) candidates-(P2)

  • Candidates with orthopaedic disorders and learning disabilities, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphica, Spastic-(P3).

These 3% seats should be offered to eligible Physically Handicap Candidates on the inter-se merit of all PH candidates taken together.

Note : It should be noted that the physically handicapped candidates on admission to Diploma course will not be given any exemptions or additional facilities in the academic activities other than those which may be provided by the MSBTE and respective Institutions.

Seats reserved for physically handicapped are available only in 70% District Level seats. However, physically handicapped category candidates giving options for 30% round will be considered as open category candidates or as any other backward class candidates, if applicable.

3.4.2  Five seats in each course for Physically handicapped candidates in some Polytechnics:

In addition to the seats specified in 3.4.1, provision of additional 5 seats in each course over and above the sanctioned intake is made in Polytechnics who have received AICTE approval for physically handicapped candidates through Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. This scheme is meant for Upgrading existing Polytechnic to integrate the Physically Disabled in the Main stream of Technical and Vocational Education. The following Polytechnics are permitted to fill up the seats under this provision.

  • Govt. Polytechnic, Kolhapur

  • Govt. Polytechnic, Mumbai

  • Govt. Polytechnic, Pune

3.5  Reservation for female candidates.

As per the provisions in Govt. Resolution No. GEC-1000/ (123/2000)/ Tech. Edu.-1, dated 17th April, 2000, 30% seats shall be reserved for female candidates in all the Government, Govt.-Aided and Unaided Polytechnics in all the courses. This reservation shall be with in all categories like Open, SC, ST, VJ, NT 1, NT 2, NT 3 and OBC.

3.6  Seats available for the Weaver Community of Solapur District.

10% seats of the sanctioned intake capacity of the Textile course at Government Polytechnic, Solapur shall be reserved for the weaver communities of Solapur district.
